Biswanath Handloom

The Aronai is a traditional hand-woven scarf or muffler of the Bodo community in Assam, India. Worn by both men and women, it is a cultural symbol of respect, hospitality, and heritage. The product has been develop by indigenous weavers of Biswanath district. 

Dimensions: Typically measures 1.5 to 2.5 meters in length and 0.25 to 0.5 meters in width. 

Material: Traditionally crafted using pure, hand-spun cotton or silk (such as Endi or Muga) on traditional handlooms.

Design & Motifs: Distinguished by iconic geometric patterns, the most common being Hajw Agor (representing hilly/mountain landscapes). 

The Erpob is a traditional neck-wrap or shoulder scarf, primarily used by Mising men and women for both fashion and warmth. The product has been develop by indigenous weavers of Biswanath district. 

Dimensions: Rectangular shape, typically measuring around 1.5 to 2 meters in length and 20 to 30 cm in width. 

Material: Hand-woven from high-quality cotton or wool using traditional throw-shuttle or loin looms. 

Design & Motifs: The stripes and borders often contain intricate geometric, floral, and star-shaped butties (motifs).

The Karbi Poho is a traditional handwoven headgear and scarf worn by men of the Karbi community in Assam, India. The product has been develop by indigenous weavers of Biswanath district. 

Dimensions: Typically handwoven with a standard length of about 155 cm and a width of approximately 18 cm.

Material: It is primarily handcrafted fro m natural, locally grown cotton or Eri silk. Modern variations frequently use mercerized cotton, and commercially woven options may incorporate blends like viscose rayon or acrylic.

Motifs: The ends and borders of the poho feature intricately woven geometric shapes, symbolic animal figures, and traditional Karbi motifs. 

ASSAMESE GAMOSA

The Assamese Gamosa (or Gamusa) is a rectangular, handwoven cotton cloth characterized by its bright white base and striking red (or maroon) woven borders along the length and intricate, vibrant floral motifs (phulam) woven on the lateral ends. 

Dimensions: A standard traditional Assamese Gamosa typically measures about 150 cm × 70 cm (roughly 54 to 60 inches in length and 22 to 27 inches in width). However, dimensions vary based on the specific type and use, such as 200 × 100 cm for larger bath towels and 280 × 16 cm for ceremonial waistbands 

Materials: Traditionally woven using fine-to-medium count cotton yarns, allowing for optimal absorbency and quick-drying properties. Ceremonial or highly esteemed variations can be woven using indigenous Pat (mulberry) or Muga (golden) silk. 

Motifs: The decorative motifs on the ends feature elaborate supplementary weft patterning. These geometric or floral figures are hand-manipulated using extra colored yarns to create textured, tapestry-like designs.
